Five apprentices completed their training with outstanding results and a final grade above 5. Angelo Prutti, Facility Maintenance Specialist EFZ (5.2); Alessandro di Cello, Business Administrator EFZ (5.2); Diamant Zhuniqi, Business Administrator EFZ (5.1). The two Facility Maintenance Specialists EFZ, Joanna Ebersold and Mathias Beni, even achieved the dream grade of 5.5. We’ve captured the experiences and goals of these successful young professionals in the following interview and in their personal statements.
Joanna Ebersold, Facility Maintenance Specialist EFZ (final grade 5.5)
What went through your minds when you found out your amazing final grades?
Joanna Ebersold
To be honest, I was stunned and surprised that it was a 5.5 right off the bat. By nature, I’m very ambitious and hard on myself, and I had obviously underestimated myself.
Mathias Beni
I felt much the same way. I hadn’t expected to do so well right off the bat. My joy was - and still is - just as great.
What was the most important thing you learned during your vocational training?
Joanna Ebersold
My on-the-job trainer, Bernhard Scheller, not only taught me a lot professionally, but he also showed me what I should focus on in life. He made it clear to me that in our industry, I shouldn’t take the path of least resistance, but should challenge myself anew every day.
Mathias Beni
Being a facilities maintenance specialist is a very versatile and varied profession. That’s why it’s so important to have knowledge of the different areas of work and to be responsive to the diverse needs of customers.
Mathias Beni, Facility Maintenance Specialist EFZ (final grade 5.5)
What was your experience with ISS as an apprenticeship provider?
Mathias Beni
ISS is a very attentive training company that supports us young people wherever it can and always finds a good way to challenge and encourage us as apprentices.
Joanna Ebersold
Very generous, accommodating, and supportive. The apprenticeship wasn’t exactly easy because of the pandemic, but we were always able to stay in touch through video calls. The trainers often asked us about our school performance and any problems we might be having. And what was really important: the in-house block instruction. When I compare myself to apprentices at other companies, I was really lucky to do my apprenticeship at ISS.
What do you particularly like about your profession?
Mathias Beni
For me, it’s the variety of different tasks: Sometimes you’ll clean a conference room, fix a malfunction, and maintain green spaces all in the same day.
Joanna Ebersold
The mix of hands-on work and administrative tasks is also stimulating. It’s never boring.
What are your plans after your apprenticeship?
Joanna Ebersold
I’ve decided to move to the Aja Resort as a technical custodian - it’s just a stone’s throw from ISS headquarters. Now I want to get off to a good start in the working world. I’m also planning a language study abroad program; I want to learn Spanish, and I’ll definitely start continuing education in the next few years. You have to keep developing yourself.
Mathias Beni
I’ve been offered a very exciting position as a facilities manager on a Swisscom contract and will remain with ISS.
What are your dreams in life?
Joanna Ebersold
I’d love to use digital technology to become self-employed and independent. My boyfriend works in real estate - maybe we can build something there. My dream would be to work as a digital nomad.
Mathias Beni
It’s simple: I want to lead a quiet and pleasant life and have a job that gives me the time to pursue things that are important to me.
Brigitte Hotz, Head of Talent Management at ISS Switzerland

Angelo Prutt,
Facilities Maintenance Specialist EFZ (final grade 5.2)
“I’ve grown as a person over the past three years. I’ve become more mature and have developed analytical thinking skills during my training. In my line of work, you have to make technical diagnoses under pressure while remaining calm and objective.”
Alessandro di Cello,
Business Associate EFZ (final grade 5.2)
Whatever it is - the way you tell your story online can make a huge difference.
Diamant Zhuniqi,
Business Administrator EFZ (final grade 5.1)
“I’ve learned to overcome challenges. During my apprenticeship, we regularly rotated through different departments, so the requirements kept changing. It’s important to give it your all every day. Over the past three years, I’ve grown significantly - not only professionally but also personally.”
