With the coronavirus, the issue of hygiene has moved to the top of the agenda in the business world. Anyone who cannot work from home must be able to rely on a hygienically safe workplace during the coronavirus pandemic. In the office, this means disinfecting and maintaining social distancing.
This video explains how we implement social distancing in open-plan offices .
However, social distancing and federal guidelines alone are not enough to ensure hygiene and safety in the workplace. For companies, numerous other questions arise regarding business operations: How can we ensure that the work environment and premises are safe for employees, customers, and visitors? How and how often should cleaning be performed? What hygiene measures can be taken in the workplace if an employee tests positive for COVID-19?
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, ISS has been working intensively on these issues, as facility management plays a key role in hygiene across all industries. Working closely with clients and in accordance with federal guidelines, ISS has developed a service concept tailored to current requirements that focuses on three levels of application:
Excellent Hygiene Standards: Preventive Services
Maintaining an excellent hygiene standard through increased cleaning frequencies or regular disinfection of frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs, stair railings, and elevator buttons, as well as common areas such as restrooms, break rooms, etc.

Increased Risk of Contamination: Disinfection
In workplaces with a temporary increased risk of contamination, surfaces, furniture, and objects are disinfected using special procedures and products to further optimize hygiene and safety for employees.

Specific Incident: Decontamination
If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19, the workspace is decontaminated through an intensive, one-time treatment, with the goal of restoring a safe working environment for employees as quickly as possible.

Training and Protective Equipment: Dedicated Teams
To carry out these tasks, ISS has established specialized teams throughout Switzerland that also serve as emergency response teams during disinfection and decontamination operations. ISS employees have been equipped with the appropriate gear for these tasks and have received detailed training on how to use personal protective equipment, the new procedures, and the products to be used. In addition to measures to ensure hygiene standards, ISS specialists also advise clients in other areas, such as how to organize office spaces to maintain social distancing, what is suitable for separating workstations, or what communication measures should be used to keep the workforce informed.
Protecting Employees and Customers: Quickly Adapting Workspace Concepts
Dominik Dräyer, Head of the Excellence Center at ISS Switzerland, explains: “Protecting our employees and our customers is ISS’s top priority. We are closely monitoring the situation and federal guidelines and working closely with our customers. We can quickly adapt our modular service and workspace concepts to meet our customers’ new requirements and needs, thereby ensuring the required hygiene standards and protective measures are in place at the workspaces.”
