After 72 years at Zurich’s Hallenstadion, the ZSC Lions will move into the Swiss Life Arena in autumn 2022 – an ultra-modern sports and events venue in the west of the city of Zurich. ISS Facility Services AG is also on board, having been commissioned by the ZSC Lions to manage the arena’s facilities. Peter Zahner, CEO of ZSC Lions AG, and André Nauer, CEO of ISS Switzerland, sealed the new partnership with a handshake.
The complex contract for Switzerland’s most modern sports and event arena includes, among other things, all building services (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) as well as cleaning services at the stadium and during various events. “ISS clearly submitted the best proposal during the bidding process,” explains Peter Zahner, CEO of ZSC Lions AG. “As stadium operators, we need to be confident that we’re working with the best partner in facility management - one who can meet our high quality standards. And that’s certainly the case here.”
12,000 fans will cheer on the Lions to peak performance at the Swiss Life Arena. Construction costs for the new home of the nine-time Swiss ice hockey champions totaled 207 million Swiss francs. For this amount, the renowned London-based architectural firm Caruso St John built a 170-meter-long, 110-meter-wide, and 33-meter-high eye-catcher at the western gateway to Zurich - ideally located between the highway access road and the SBB rail line.

On October 18, the ZSC Lions will play their first home game in the new arena. The goal for Coach Rikard Grönborg’s team will be to celebrate their tenth Swiss championship title in the spring of 2023, following titles in 1936, 1949, 1961, 2000, 2001, 2008, 2012, 2014, and 2018, to celebrate their tenth Swiss championship title in the spring of 2023. The goal of the ISS team is to ensure that the new arena provides an ideal environment for the athletes and their fans in every respect.
